Autoclave Servicing
26 June 2018
It is again time, for our autoclave validation and X-ray compliance tests.
The autoclave is used to sterilise instruments, and we must be sure it works. The validation checks the autoclave sterilises. Australian Infection Control Standard’s require autoclaves be regularly serviced and validated. The autoclave is first serviced and adjusted if needed. The validation is carried out by placing living bacteria inside the autoclave and testing that they die. This is repeated 3 times to ensure the autoclave is working to Australian Standards. Additionally, at Port Kennedy Dental we regularly repeat the test with living bacteria between validation testing. Along with vacuum, helix, and class VI indicators we monitor and check that our autoclave is working.
The X-ray machines are also required to be serviced and validated. These are serviced and tested to Western Australian Standards. This ensures necessary x-rays taken by Port Kennedy Dental are as safe as possible. Port Kennedy Dental also utilises digital technology that keeps x-ray exposure lower than tradition x-rays.
