Frequently asked Questions
Child Dental Benefits Schedule
Does the Port Kennedy Dental Group participate in the Child Dental Benefits Schedule?
Yes. Port Kennedy Dental Group has provided free dentistry to eligible children in the Port Kennedy and Warnbro Sound Region using this scheme since it began in 2014.
The schedule provides subsidised basic dentistry to eligible children aged 2-17 years. Their family must receive Family Tax Benefit Part A. The Australian Government sends a letter or email to eligible parents.
What types of Dentistry can be provided?
A restricted range of dentistry is available, covering most common needed dental treatments. No benefits are available for orthodontic, dentistry provided in hospital or mouth-guards.
How does my child access these dental treatments?
Parents need to let the Port Kennedy Dental Group know that they wish to access this schedule at time of making dental appointment. The Australian Government requires “extra” paperwork and records. Parents need to produce the letter of eligibility at this visit.
What happens when my child visits Port Kennedy Dental Group?
The government requires:
- an examination to be completed,
- proposed treatment be discussed,
- parent complete consent forms at each appointment,
- costs and billing arrangements be discussed,
- then further treatment needed proceeds as a regular patient,
- and accounts/receipts must use special government item codes.
Do I need to pay for treatment??
Fees are not bulk billed. At Port Kennedy Dental Group, we charge you the reduced schedule cost of the dental service. This can then be fully claimed back from the government. Visit a Service Centre or send the itemised account/receipt to the Department of Human Services to receive your refund.
Further details can be found on the Department of Human Services website.
